Kai Ralph

Kai is highly valued at ASSESS EDUCATION on Picton Road, where Kai offers his time freely as a volunteer supporting young people who are having problems in mainstream school or have been excluded from school. Recently, Kai has taken up baking and yet again, with his generous spirit, he freely spends hours making gorgeous cakes for his family and friends and anyone who needs cheering up or whom has a birthday celebration.

Sheila Byrne

For the last 6 years, Sheila has dedicated her life to helping others. Sheila set up a community café and hub, called Hope St. She works 6 days and 3 evenings a week making sure the local community receive the services they want and need to help improve their mental health general overall wellbeing. What started out in 2018 as a single 2-hour peer support session a week is now a bustling vibrant place helping more than 100 people each week. Sheila still facilitates peer support as well of lots of different sessions for all ages, all of which are free to users. The profile of the hub has grown, attracting regulars from Kirkby, Anfield, Crosby, Southport, Wirral. Sheila runs and organises every element of Hope St without taking any kind of salary.

Bill Hughes

Bill has been a pillar in the community when he had shops in local areas, people remember KUT A BILL in all generations…people would come in to chat to him. The local school even got a petition up when he was thinking of retirement and closing the store. Bill is a very big family man and would do anything to help his family and friends. Even when working 7 days a week, he would find time to spend with his family with pressures of caring for his son. Bill only retired 2 years ago (he was 88 on 12th February 2024).

Bill has since passed away on 29th November 2024.

LIVER CHILD AWARD

Kyle Shone

Kyle loves wrestling, and his saying in life is that there is no such word as can’t. Kyle has undergone a great deal of surgery and physio. Kyle has raised funds for his school’s foodbank, and he has taken part in a number of charity shows to help raise money for local causes.

Michael Smart

Michael has raised funds for his local hospice and supports this hospice knowing he is making a difference to local people who may have lost a loved one.

Claire Cathcart

Claire’s little boy Jake, was born with a rare but unexpected heart condition in 2015. Claire created a community called Team 1C, which is now a registered charity for families affected by congenital heart defects in the northwest. Claire spends every Sunday delivering hot food to parents living in hospital, as well as care packages. Claire has raised thousands of pounds for charities including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, the Liverpool Women’s as well as many others.
